Trivia on the Disney Wonder (including sample questions and answers)
Trivia is a mainstay activity on any cruise. But for the happiest place at sea, Disney trivia is VERY competitive, so you better bring your ‘A’ game if you want to take home a coveted Disney cruise medal.
Medals Won at Trivia on The Disney Wonder over 2 voyages
We do like our trivia. We have a regular team that we meet up with a few times a month at a local brewery, I have written a few TV themed games for the podcast Extra Hot Great, and recently we have become a little obsessed with Pop Culture Jeopardy.
So on our first cruise with Disney, we came into the room with a fair bit of bravado and ready to claim our medals. Long story short, we did terribly. It was a Disney Music Trivia game for all ages and the questions were so obscure and so hard I think we got about 9 out of 20. I don’t think we even came in 5th. We did attend a few more specialty trivia games, but with no glory.
On our next trip on the Wonder departing from Sydney for 5 nights, we took a different tack. We only attended one or two ‘specialty’ trivia’ games (we came second in the Walt Disney trivia) and focused more on the adults only, general trivia. As we are two adults with no children, we didn’t feel right about competing against families and potentially taking away their medals. And with the general trivia, we just found the bar was a little lower to win. We won once where we only had 14 out of 20.
Tips for general trivia
Bigger is better- Team up with others, this helps you broaden your knowledge base and meet people. Ask the cast member the maximum team size and try to get to that number in your team
Question Types- As Disney is a US based company, much of the general trivia on our previous cruises were US based, but on the last cruise of the season out of Sydney, some of the general trivia had become Australia questions. Nice to see Disney responding to the market. That said, most of the general questions (Aussie or not) were historical and not about current events. Other topics that we found came up regularly were sports, geography, pop culture from the 90’s and 2000’s, and animals.
Be kind to your cast members- The cast members presenting the trivia aren’t the ones who write the questions, they come as a package and are presented by the cast member.
Check your (and other’s) work- If the host gets you to swap papers to mark the answers, check other people’s marking of your paper and their math….we found out this one the hard way.
Have fun!- Remember this is all about winning a piece of plastic. You may not come in first, but there is no shame in getting four our of ten. And hey, you might learn something for next time, right?
